I just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for your hospitality and fill you in on last year’s success. It’s been a long winter and I can’t wait to get back on the water.
I didn’t know what to expect this past season. Would we catch the “Hogs” that survived the previous year’s winter kill? Would the large number of planters be catchable size? I was pleasantly surprised on both accounts. The “Hogs” are doing well and the planters grew to 3-4 pounds. The fish are healthy and very strong. I went home several days with a sore wrist; that’s a good thing.
Early in the season my best patterns were black and dark brown leaches. Once the water temperature came up I switched to chironomids and bead head hairs ears which worked very well. My favorite method of fishing these patterns is on a floating line with long leaders 15 – 20 feet. Patience is the key to fishing these small patterns but the rewards are well worth it. Slow retrieves of 5-minutes are common.
I am looking forward to a very good 2006 season which should be one of the best in years for numbers of “Big” fish. 5 - 6 pound fish should be common with several in the 8 - 10 pound range. I strongly recommend Guild’s to anyone wanting to catch a lot of “Big” fish
Thanks again for the opportunity to enjoy this fantastic fishery!
